highlander: the series

The Highlander franchise dates back to 1986. In this year, the feature film Highlander hit theatre screens, shot from a screenplay by Gregory Widen. It was hardly a big hit, but found its cult audience on video. A sequel, 1991's Highlander II: The Quickening, was a deserved flop.

Fortunately, Highlander: The Series fulfilled the potential of the original film. Running six seasons, from 1992 to 1998, the TV show was among the most successful of the '90s science fiction and fantasy series. A TV spin-off, Highlander: The Raven, and more films followed.

What's next for Highlander? A remake of the original film is in development, possibly starring Kevin McKidd as Connor MacLeod. Let's brace ourselves and hope for the best.
