Gaelic Chic

man of style

Duncan has a "signature look" as well as more relaxed outfits and of course, period clothes. He likely would prefer not to stand out in a crowd, but really, he's pretty hard to miss!

Six feet tall, well built and in good shape due to long hours of martial arts training and exercise, Duncan has deep brown eyes and dark hair, kept tied in a ponytail with Celtic knot ornaments. In season six, Mac crops his hair and keeps this shorter look for the films Endgame and The Source. Since he first "died" in 1622, at age 29, he has appeared in his mid-30s.

His trademark article of clothing is his black duster, worn for stealth, and to hold his katana. He'll often wear this when going into battle. In winter, he occasionally switches to a heavier wool coat. In warmer seasons, his outerwear includes a nylon pullover and a leather pilot jacket.

Mac likes neutral shades and sportswear. He's seen in black, white, brown, beige, grey, and navy pants, shirts, and blazers, though sometimes he adds colour by sporting primary colour button-down shirts. He leans toward natural fibres such as leather, suede, vinyl, and denim. For exercising he wears basic active wear, usually in black.

In the first season Duncan can be seen in some bold items - like jacquard vests - but colour and pattern gradually fade from his wardrobe until little but beige and black remain. He also prefers loose, light clothing suitable for martial arts and meditation in the final season and the two films.

No look is complete without a sleek set of wheels. It's no surprise that Duncan likes classic cars. He can be seen driving a black 1964 Ford Thunderbird Convertible, a black 1968 Citroën DS, and a 1997 Range Rover.

In flashbacks, Mac wears what suits the culture and climate, as well as his social position. In his early years, Mac is properly attired in the feileadh mor, a large piece of wool tartan wrapped around the waist and shoulder to form a kilt. He wears the blue and green tartans of the Glenfinnan area. In the centuries that follow, he is sometimes a fop in tights and a puffy blouse; at other times a gentleman in black coats - or else an army officer, a guest of the Orient, and many other things. He weathers 400 years of fashion with distinction.
